Hello and thank you all for visiting our class website. Welcome to your favorite class ever. I am a firm believer in the ability to have fun while learning and assure you we will be doing a lot of both.
When you walk through the doors of room 307 you are instantly part of my family, and you will be well taken care of. I try to cultivate a very inclusive atmosphere that allows everyone to be themselves, feel seen, heard and respected. I only ask that you treat others with the same level of respect that I give you, so that our experience together this year can be as enjoyable as possible.
I value growth over achievement, so as long as the effort is there, we will all succeed. I just try to be better than the person I was yesterday and will hopefully be able to impart that mindset to you all as well.
Hello! My name is Benjamin Nelson and I specialize in making the world a better place. I believe everyone has the capacity and ability to change the world for the better, so every day I try to do just that. I enjoy smiling and laughing and sharing my joy with others. I try to inspire those around me with my passion for betterment, my unrelenting desire to search for the positives and a general enthusiasm for life. I also teach 7th Grade Science, coach a few sports and run a club every now and then here at Highland Lakes!
I was born and raised in Phoenix and truly love it here, even when it's a hundred and forty-seven degrees outside. My beautiful wife, Angela, and I have two fantastic children. We have a nineteen-year-old son named Hagen that makes us laugh every day and a 12-year-old daughter named Hannah that melts hearts with her big blue eyes and infectious smile. I also have to give a shout-out to my parents. My mom is one of the kindest, most compassionate people you'll ever meet and inspires me to be a better person every day. My dad taught me the importance of consistency and integrity. He was super smart, witty and just a fun guy to be around.
I love soccer a lot. I follow a number of leagues and tournaments and play on a coed team myself. I also have a borderline unhealthy obsession with soccer jerseys. Aside from soccer, I enjoy basketball, watching movies and spending time with my family. I think the most important thing to know about me though is that I absolutely love what I do. I love being a teacher! I’m kind of childish, I love working with kids and I’ve always been a science nerd. There is not a better job on the planet for me :)
If you are still reading this, congratulations, you now know a little bit about me. I very much look forward to getting to know you as well and having a wonderful year here in 7th Grade Science with me, Mr. Nelson!
