I knew at a very early age what I wanted to do with my life. I wanted to be a teacher. Some of my earliest memories involve teaching my stuffed animals and baby dolls how to read and write. As I grew, every choice I made was deliberate and brought me closer to my dream of teaching. I was very fortunate to know, without a thread of doubt, what I wanted to do with my life. My path was set clearly before me.
In December 2000, I graduated from Arizona State University West with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. My career started with a job teaching 6th grade with the Deer Valley Unified School District in August 2001. The next year, I transferred to a 3rd grade teaching position and loved it. I taught in DVUSD for 7 years, primarily as a 3rd-grade teacher. During that time I participated in many professional development trainings and received endorsements in Early Childhood Education and Structured English Immersion.
In 2008 I moved to Tyler, Texas. I taught 2nd and 3rd grades in the Tyler Independent School District, and I completed my Master's Degree in Elementary Education with a Reading Endorsement from Northern Arizona University. In the summer of 2011, I had my fill of the great state of Texas and moved back home to Phoenix. I was honored to accept a 3rd grade position, teaching a Gifted Cluster class, with DVUSD and began taking classes for my Gifted Endorsement, which I received in 2012.
In August 2012, I began teaching 3rd-grade students in the Renaissance Gifted Academy at Highland Lakes. My students are amazing and I am always really heartbroken over sending them on to 4th Grade. I miss them so! I know that I have a whole new group of amazing 3rd Graders coming up. I look forward to the exciting year ahead!
